More travel tips on buses

Tips for traveller's travelling across either to Malaysia/Singapore
1.Please don't forget your belongings! If you forget them, chances you might not get them back is quite high.
2. Please make sure that if you have chocolates, expensive toiletries, contact lenses, liquid medications, what ever that practically can melt -DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT think of putting them in the luggage compartment. Please bring them together with you on the upper deck/seating area.
3.Make sure that you have proper documentation, that if you need visa you have them beforehand and make sure that they are for travelling via land and not air.And make sure that you have your passport with you before boarding of coach.
4.Check your bus number. A lot of buses are parked together at rest areas so please read them carefully so that you do not take the wrong bus even if they look the same.
5.If you are carrying medication, please have your letter of prescription.
6.Determine your date of travelling carefully. Some bus companies do not give refunds for cancellation of tickets.

Entering Singapore from Malaysia - vice versa

Warning on drug trafficking

Petronas Twin Towers, KL -Malaysia

Mountain and highland of Sabah

Chinatown,KL Malaysia (left)

Merlion, Singapore

There are 2 ways that you can enter Singapore, either via Woodlands (common and easy but be ready for traffic during peak hours!)or through Tuas.

If you are a foreigner this would be quite a challenge!Even for a first timer or those who has been travelling into Singapore they might forget what to do.

You will be given a white form /entry form that you must fill up before entering Singapore. This slip will be taken at the Singapore check point. Part of the form will be returned to you. Make sure you do not lose it as it is required upon your departure out of Singapore.

Lets start with entering Singapore via Tuas as I am a regular user of this route. (This is if you are using a bus). You will first enter the Tanjung Kupang, Johor Checkpoint. Your coach will stop at the entry check or somewhere close to there. Walk in a choose your lane. After you are done with the stamping proceed to go out and look for your coach. Your coach will be waiting for you outside.

Next you will enter the Singapore checkpoint. Please remember that Singapore is very strict at the check points. You will see their police using riffles etc. Do not carry tobacco/cigarette more than one pack, and if you have one pack make sure you have opened and taken out one stick...doesn't matter what you do, just make sure its not there! If you carry liqour bottles- unopened, please go to the declared item lane. You will have to pay whatever is needed there. If you have an opened bottle, they would ask you to drink some on the spot. No chewing gums please!Americans beware!

The same procedure applies during entering Malaysia. You will be required to take down your luggage at country you are entering.

Whatever it is you are bringing into another country, make sure you know what the content is as I have seen many travellers carrying items or gifts for others which they do not know what the content is.

*Please take note that Malaysia and Singapore are very strict against any illegal drug substances usage. If you are found trafficking/carrying any sort or form of drug (not medication) , the death penalty will be upon you.

List of reliable coaches/bus companies in Malaysia and Singapore

Here are some websites on coaches in KL to everywhere else in Malaysia including Singapore which might be useful to you.The ones mentioned are the main ones and more known for its reliability. Some are cheaper, some cost more due to their exclusiveness.

Tips:
1. If you are going to Malaysia from Singapore and back to Singapore, buy tickets separately as the tickets in Malaysia are cheaper due to conversion rate.
2. If you are going from Malaysia to Singapore and return, buy your return ticket in Malaysia as they are cheaper this way.
3.If you are travelling within Malaysia, you can buy your ticket practically anytime or check at your arrival point when you can get them. If you are travelling during Malaysian school holiday break it is unlikely you will get tickets.
4.My recommended busses would be Aeroline, Maraliner, Transtar, Plusliner.

KL-Singapore

Let's start somewhere on familiar territory. One of the way to travel is via coach -which is one of the cheapest mode almost anywhere in the world!

So, you are in KL and want to travel to other parts of Malaysia or Singapore perhaps. Here are some guidelines:

Coaches in Malaysia
Here are some useful info on coaches that you can find. Since most travellers starts from Kuala Lumpur (capital of Malaysia - known to locals as KL), I shall start with coach/bus stations that you can find in KL.
The most famous coach terminal , the one that has all the coaches that goes to all part of Malaysia (all locals in KL will know):HENTIAN PUDURAYA - you can ask anyone in KL they will gladly tell you how to get there. Here you can get coaches at to almost anywhere you want with a very affordable price. But be warn that the place is rowdy and is full of people at anytime. Be careful with your belongings at all time - targets at foreigners are more common.
You can find taxis a plenty there. Always insist for the meter to be on.
Next is the Hentian Putra, Kuala Lumpur. It is near the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) on Jalan Putra. Nearby is The Mall, The Legend (hotel) ...you can ask me too for landmarks.
The buses here mostly go to the East Coast. If you are back packing to the islands such as Redang, Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Gemia etc this is the place for you to take your bus. But you still can take those at Puduraya aswell.
( I met once an English man of 60+ travelling back to KL from Redang...he said he spent 3 months there what he can spend 1 week in Gold Coast.... ).
Hentian Duta - near to some some government offices, Hockey Stadium and the Duta Tennis Court. Most buses from here goes up North. The common bus you can find is the Transnational coach. Like I mentioned, you can still get from Puduraya aswell.
Cons: Quite inaccesible. Need taxis to get in and out of this terminal.
Lastly, the Pekeliling Bus Station. Goes mostly to eastern side of Malaysia to Pahang etc. Goes to Raub, Kuantan, Jerantut.(Not that familiar with this stop. Anyone with more info please share!)
Now, there are also coaches known as executive coach which cost slightly more than the coaches that you can find on the bus stations that were mentioned. Most of these coaches are located at places that are easily accessible or near to shopping malls. These coaches mostly go down to Singapore.
Here are the names of the companies;
Aeroline - they go from various parts of KL/Selangor to Singapore as well as Penang. (They have a toilet for light usage and serve coffee/tea, onboard movies, sandwiches from Subway...value for money! You can buy the tickets online from anywhere in the world! But note their policy is strict but as long as you follow them, you are ok) .
Damai Ekspress - Pasar Rakyat to Singapore.
First Coach - various parts of KL to Singapore.
Nice - from KTMB (old railway station) to Singapore. (They have tvs, cold sandwiches )
Odyssey - KL to Singapore.
Transnational - Malaysian Tourism Centre, Jalan Ampang to Singapore.
